Heute morgen hat es dann auch für uns um 05:30 Uhr Frühstück gegeben. Am Abfahrtstag gibt es klare Regeln: vor dem Frühstück müssen die Rucksäcke fertig gepackt vor der Tür stehen. Zum Ende des Frühstücks wird abgefragt, ob alle da sind, die heute losmüssen, danach wird draußen gegengezählt ob alle Rucksäcke da sind. Gegen 05:50 Uhr beginnt das Verladen der Rucksäcke und dann geht‘s ab.
Die Fahrt zur Grenze dauert eine Stunde. Am Monument und auch am Grenzzaun ist dann Zeit für Bilder und das Trail-Register, wo man sich einträgt. Einer der Punkte, von denen ich lange geträumt habe, nämlich dort zu stehen und dann Richtung Norden aufzubrechen, ist endlich in Erfüllung gegangen! 🙂
Ich laufe mit Ruth und Saskia gemeinsam los, die ich gestern kennengelernt habe. Während wir morgens noch in dem wärmeren Jäckchen da stehen, kommt die Sonne relativ schnell in Fahrt und es sind 20 Grad im Schatten.
Auf den ersten 20 Meilen/ 32km gibt es praktisch keinen Schatten. Wir haben nur einmal wirklich an einem Hang mit Bäumen/Büschen ein wenig Schatten bekommen, ansonsten heißt es halt, Pause in der prallen Sonne machen.
Wir schaffen in sieben Stunden 11,4 Meilen/18,4km und sind dann doch alle drei erstmal froh, zwei Stündchen Siesta halten zu können.
Gegen 20:00 Uhr ist Pennen angesagt. Morgen werden wir direkt zu Beginn ungefähr 500 Höhenmeter abwärts laufen, an Hauser Creek Wasser filtern und uns dann an einen 800m Aufstieg machen, der uns aus Hauser Canyon herausbringt und dann geht es weiter Richtung Lake Morena, wo der erste Burger des Urlaubs wartet.
Today it was time for us to have breakfast at 05:30 as we were leaving. There are some rules for the day you leave: before breakfast your pack has to be packed and standing outside the entrance of the house. During breakfast it is checked that everybody who is leaving today is awake and ready. After that the packs are counted to make sure it matches the amount of people leaving. At about 05:50 loading of the cars begins.
After a one hour drive there is time for pictures at the monument, the fence, a group picture and the trail register. This is one of the things I have been dreaming of for a long time a standing there and start walking north! 🙂
I am leaving the border with Ruth and Saskia whom I met yesterday. It has been a bit chilly at the monument but the sun started shining soon and warmed up.
On the first 20 miles there is next to no shadow so we had breaks sitting there in full sun but also have been lucky to find a bit of shadow once.
Took 7,5 hours to hike 11.4 miles and everybody is happy to chill out for two or three hours. Bedtime around 8pm.
Tomorrow we will descend to Hauser Creek, refill water and then conquer the famous ascend out of Hauser Canyon and hike into Lake Morena for the first burger of the trip.
